On Thursday, March 24th, 2011, the Japan-America Society of Greater Austin (JASGA) hosted a Japanese Taiko & Dance Performance at the Austin Asian-American Cultural Center. The featured performer of the evening was Chieko Kojima of the world-famous Kodo, with additional performances by Austin Japanese dance group Hanabira and Austin Taiko. Proceeds from the night’s performance went to the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund, which was created in response to the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th, 2011. Funds will go to relief efforts in the Tohoku area of Japan.

Japanese Dance Workshop
There will be two workshops this Saturday, March 26th, at the Joyce Willett School of Dance (12687 Research Blvd), taught by Chieko Kojima. The first workshop at 1:30 is geared for participants with some basic skills and knowledge of Japanese dance. The second workshop at 3:00 is open to the general public, so participants who have no experience are welcome.
