In addition to the many ways you can send your support and prayers to Japan nationally, there are some options for you to contribute locally … and be entertained and educated in the process. The Japan-America Society of Greater Austin (JASGA) is hosting a Japanese Taiko and Dance Performance at the Asian American Cultural Center on Thursday, March 24th at 7:30pm.
Chieko Kojima, principle dancer for Kodo, an internationally-renowned Japanese traditional drumming ensemble, will perform for attendees with the help of Martha Durham, Austin Taiko, and Hanabiri, a Japanese dance group. In addition to Kojima’s performance, Martha Durham and Austin Taiko will perform “Hana Hachijo,” and Hanabiri will perform a dance. Proceeds from this performance will go directly to programs in the most affected areas of Japan.
